About Professor Rodney Sinclair
Samson was founded by Professor Rodney Sinclair, MBBS, MD, FACD, who is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Melbourne and Australia’s highest ranked dermatologist researcher. He has over 30 years’ experience in clinical dermatology and hair research. With over 700 listed publications, 30,000 literature citations and an H-index of 81, he is ranked no. 32 in the world for dermatology research.
Professor Sinclair was awarded a doctorate for his thesis on androgenetic alopecia in 2004 and was a part of the team that identified the first 3 genes involved in androgenetic alopecia. He has published numerous textbooks, research articles and book chapters on hair biology and hair loss treatment.
How it works

Minoxidil is a pro-drug that requires bio-activation within the hair follicle. The active metabolite, minoxidil sulfate, activates dormant telogen follicles, prolongs the anagen growth phase and reverses hair follicle miniaturization. For patients this means less hair loss, stronger and thicker hair fibres, improved hair growth and better scalp hair coverage.
Sublingual delivery bypasses hepatic first-pass metabolism to increase minoxidil sulfate in the hair follicle and hair growth and at the same time reduces minoxidil sulfate in the circulation and avoids haemodynamic side-effects such as palpitations.
Our journey

Professor Sinclair first pioneered the use of low dose minoxidil in 2004, and since 2010 he has used it to treat hair loss in over 20,000 patients in his Melbourne dermatology clinic alone.
In 2015, Samson Clinical developed sublingual minoxidil (SLM) to improve drug delivery, maximise hair growth and improve patient safety. Through R&D we have developed a proprietary, rapid-dissolving SLM with excellent stability and prolonged shelf-life.
The Phase 1 clinical trial was completed in 2024 and the pivotal Phase 3 clinical trial in men with androgenetic alopecia commenced in 2025.
